Proof of identity - online and telephone applications

New Customers - For online and telephone applications we may require proof of your identity and address.

When completing your application we suggest that you have a passport or EU national identity card and a debit/credit card to hand, as it may be possible to verify your details electronically and open your account within 24 hours.

The documentation we require will be outlined in your application pack.

You can provide this documentation in one of two ways:

  • You can visit your nearest branch where your documents will be validated & certified.
  • You can post the required documents, along with the signed application form, in the pre-paid envelope provided.

Please note that your application is valid for 28 days from the date you apply.


Confirmation of your identity and address

We need to see one certified item from the Identification table and one original item from the Address table. Documents must be certified by a member of Ulster Bank staff, a solicitor, accountant or notary public.

We cannot accept photocopies and items printed from the internet, including internet bank statements.

Certified copy of current valid signed Passport
Certified copy of full Northern Ireland/UK/Republic of Ireland driving licence or provisional licence
Certified copy of Electoral Identity Card
including signature and photograph
Certified copy of Translink Senior Citizens Smart Pass
Certified copy of Pension Book
Certified copy of National Identity Card
copy must show photograph

Address confirmation
Original Bank / Building Society or credit card statement
less than 6 months old
Original utility bill (e.g. gas, electricity)
less than 6 months old. Mobile phone bills are not acceptable
Original Mortgage summary statement
less than 12 months old
Original rates bill
issued in the last 12 months
Original Benefits Book
includes Child Benefit and Disability Benefit
Original Inland Revenue Tax Notification/Child Tax or Working Tax credit notification
issued within the last 12 months (P60s and P45s are not acceptable)
Additional address confirmation documentation for students
University/College, Letter of Acceptance/Enrolment/Offer/Request for payment
(including reference number) issued within the last 6 months
UCAS letter of offer/confirmation of place
issued within the last 6 months. Must include your application reference number


Loans, credit cards and current accounts with an overdraft

We may need to see copies of your bank/credit card statements and other relevant documentation before we can complete your application.

We will use this documentation to confirm information such as your salary and your mortgage or rent repayments.

It is important that the information you enter when completing the online application reflects what appears in your statements, so you may wish to have these to hand.

Any differences may result in you having to resubmit your application.
