Anytime Banking Card Reader - Overview
The secure way to get more from online banking
A quick introduction to the Card Reader
The Anytime Banking Card-Reader is an anti-fraud device designed to enhance your security while banking online. It provides an extra layer of protection against fraud when carrying out certain transactions via our Anytime Internet Banking service.
The Card reader looks a lot like a small hand-held calculator. It's battery-powered and you don't need to attach it to your computer.
The Card Reader simply reads the security chip on your Debit Card and generates a code which you type into your computer to authorise certain transactions - it doesn't actually hold any information about you or your passwords.
(If you don't have a suitable card to use with your Card Reader don't worry, we will provide you with an Anytime Banking card which is designed specifically for use with the Reader).
When will I need to use a Card-Reader?
You will need your card reader to carry out certain transactions such as:
- Setting up a new payment for the first time.
- Amending an existing payment instruction.
- Setting up a new bill payment or payment to a third party for the first time.
Once you have set up a new payment using your card reader it will be saved in your Payee list - you can make a repeat payment to any company or individual on this list without needing your card reader.
How do I get a Card Reader?
The Anytime Banking Card reader is free - to order one simply login to Anytime Banking, click on 'Change Settings' in the left hand menu, then select 'order card reader' from the drop down menu.
The card reader should arrive in 5-10 working days.
Can I use Anytime Banking without a Card-Reader?
Yes - you won't need to use the Card-Reader to login to Anytime Internet Banking. The same goes for checking your balance, viewing statements, transferring money between your own Ulster Bank accounts and making payments to recipients that you've previously made a payment to using online banking.
If you don't already have a Card Reader, simply log on, go to 'Change Settings' then select 'Order a Card-Reader'.
